House Hunting in Cold and Snow

House hunting in the Winter, in the snow and cold, can never be considered fun. Read below, there are times when house hunting in the winter can be very beneficial.

– Are there any drafts. Will be easy to detect insufficient insulation, or air leaks around windows or doors.
– Very long icicles may be a need for more insulation in an attic space.
– Uneven snow melt on a roof could also be an indication of poor insulation.
– Is the second floor or basement adequately heated.
– If basement is unfinished, check for uninsulated pipes attached to an outside wall. Pipes run in an uninsulated exterior wall, have a high probability of bursting or freezing due to cold.
– Are the floors cold or warm to the touch. Another indication of cold air leaks around doors.
– Is condensation showing in the windows.
